Glittery makeup may finally be coming back, but it's one of the trickiest trends out there. Make one false move and you could end up looking like a prom-scene extra in a John Hughes movie. Done the right way, though, and sparkly shadows and liners can look modern, flattering, and majorly festive.

Add subtle sparkle to your lids and your lower lash line with a shadow that's close to your skin tone, but with a touch of glitter. Stick with simple liner and long, separated lashes for a graceful glittery look.

For a trick that's sure to turn heads, apply a pop of matte color to your upper lash line, winging it out slightly. Then, apply a think stroke of shimmery gold eyeliner to your bottom lashes. Keep the rest of your face neutral so your eyes can take center stage.

Got green eyes? Sweep a smokey purplish bronze shade on your lids and blend it upwards to really make them pop. Add a touch of highlighter under your brow arches to open up the eye area even more.

If you're tired of the same old smokey eye, try it in an unexpected color like this sparkly purple. Apply a raspberry shade to your lids, sweeping it outwards and adding a touch to your lower lash line. Just be sure to define your eyelashes with a lash curler and two coats of black mascara — you don't want them to be overpowered by this bold shade.

A cat eye will never go out of style, but switching up the shade can turn it into a totally different look. Try lining your upper lids with a shimmery jade color, flicking it out at the ends. You can even add a glittery red lipstick if you're feeling extra bold.

Mixing different textures is a trendy — yet super simple — way to change up your makeup routine. For a daring look, add eye gloss to your upper lids, then carefully apply a nude glitter underneath eyes. Stick to focusing on your eyes for this look; radiant skin, combed brows, and a touch of lip balm are all you need on the rest of your face.
